Aug 11, 2014 路 Mobil1 EP has the same 15,000 mile guarantee in 0w/20 as in other viscosities. And Mobil's 0w/xx oils may have better base oils than their 5w/xx stablemates: 0w/20 EP is 60-70% PAO, which isn't repeated elsewhere in the US Mobil1 lineup. So I'd say the 0w/xx Mobil1 oils are at least as capable of long drain intervals as other M1 products.
Your second question has the answer to bobistheoilguy assumption. They should be used right? Especially with air cooled engines we need the fast heat transfer properties of 0w20, but alas it is not the case. Thick oils like w40 or w50 (with rich additives) protect better than thin w20 oils (which cannot have a high additive content).
Sep 9, 2017 路 Mixing at a ratio of less than 1 qt of 0w20 to 3 qts of 0w30 likely won't make much difference at all. As far as 0w20 versus 0w30, it will be basically the same weight cold, at startup. Still best to use the oil type weight recommended by the OM. I have never ever seen an owners manual that recommendeds mixing different weights of oil.
Nov 10, 2022 路 As 0W20 is a far thinner oil than 5W-20, it is more stable at cold temperature than the latter and flows smoothly through the critical engine parts. 5W-20 is a comparatively thicker viscosity oil and is better for a normal operating temperature range of -22掳F to 68掳F.
Jan 28, 2022 路 Anthony Lim believes that nothing is better than a good smoke and a car with character, with good handling aspects being top of the prize heap. but 0w30 and 5w-30 still got some differences in
Nov 24, 2019 路 At this moment, the car is running on 0w30 ravenol sso, but i'd like to move to 5w30 Reason : i have used 5w30 in the past and the oil consumption was around 0.3-0.5 liter while with 0w20(Motul Eco-lite with low 2.6 HTHS) or with 0w30(surprisingly high HTHS 3.57) I have around 0.8- 1L / 8000 km
Oct 14, 2022 路 Which oil is better 0w30 or 0W-40? To most motorists, the two viscosities may look the same, but opinions are divided. The most common ones are that 0w30 is a lighter oil than 0w40 and it flows better at low temperatures. Hence, it鈥檚 best for cars that don鈥檛 see heavy snow or colder weather. Which is better 0W20 or 0W-40?
May 8, 2019 路 So climate has nothing to do with the viscosity. Thinner oil is better due to it dissipates heat way better than thicker, lower drag, flows better, and with today's engines the oil pump is a low volume oil pump designed for 0w20 oil, oil won't flow correctly with the thicker oil. Do yourself a favor and follow what that owners manual says.

Shel_B said: I read somewhere that ILSAC GF-4 was introduced in 2004 and the standard applied to SAE 0W-20, 5W-20, 0W-30, 5W-30, and 10W-30 viscosity grade oils. I've not checked the info for accuracy yet, but that puts it a little earlier than your experience.
Oct 19, 2019 路 0w30 is fine in the summer too and you might even get a couple of tenths of a mpg better fuel economy. That is what M1 AFE (Advanced Fuel Economy ) 0w20/30 advertises. The 0w oil is slightly thinner than a 5w oil at cooler temperatures, so in the engine warm-up phase, there is slightly less drag and pumping loss with the 0w oil. Even in summer.
